Dometic Creates Heavy-Duty Commercial-Grade Air Conditioners

Click Illustration for Larger Image

Dometic recently launched a new line of heavy-duty rooftop commercial-grade air conditioners for mobile applications such as remote location, kiosk and other tough environment use.

Offered in 13,500 or 15,000 BTU, the air conditioners are designed for energy-efficient operations in harsh and unusual road and weather conditions. They are shock- and vibration-resistant and lightweight, starting at only 91 lbs., and use the new R-410A “green” refrigerant, which absorbs and releases heat more efficiently.

“We put these air conditioners through a great deal of testing to ensure they’ll stand up to rigorous use,” said Brad Sargent, vice president of marketing. “Under extreme vibration testing, many other units break down after only four hours of use, but these new Dometic models were still going strong at 30 hours and more.”

Commercial-grade components of the air conditioners include galvanized steel top plates, powder-coated base pans with high lips and 15 percent increased thickness over other models, L-shaped brackets tying the motor, compressor and evaporator together for vibration-free operation, and dual rubber bushings at the top and bottom to control noise and vibration. Reduce Cleaning Time and Effort wWith Foaming Cleaner

Click Illustration for Larger Image

With a brand new formulation, Thetford's Ultra-Foam Aqua-Clean™ Kitchen and Bath Cleaner combines the best of all worlds as it cleans well, saves time and is proven safe for the environment with its Environmental Protection Agency's Designed for the Environment (DfE) recognition.

The convenient trigger-spray bottle also helps owners efficiently wash their rig's kitchen and bathroom.

Thetford's Ultra-Foam advantage immediately begins lifting dirt to make cleaning easier and less time-consuming. The foaming bubbles offer an extended contact time with a surface, limiting dripping and running, so less product is needed for the task. It's also great for removing soap scum, rust stains and hard water spots. Gentle and non-abrasive, Aqua-Clean's non-scrub, multi-purpose formula is safe on seals and powerful on all surfaces.

Founded by the EPA, the DfE program began in the early 1990s to champion risk reduction through pollution prevention. All products carrying the EPA/DfE logo do not contain inorganic phosphates, hazardous solvents or environmentally harmful surfactants and use only the safest possible ingredients, while maintaining or improving product performance.

Headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Thetford Corp. is the world's leading supplier of sanitation and refrigeration products for the recreational vehicle, marine and heavy-duty truck industries. Thetford is a privately-held company with eight manufacturing facilities in four nations.

Thetford subsidiaries include Norcold, America's leading manufacturer of gas-absorption refrigerators and freezers for the RV, marine and truck markets; Tecma, a producer of fine-china toilets and powerful waste-transfer systems based in Italy; and Spinflo, a unit in England that manufactures high-quality cooking and heating appliances as well as accessories.

Dometic Specializes Sanitation Products for RVer Niches

Click Illustration for Larger Image
(left)Clean 'n Green holding tank treatment and bowl cleaner for weekenders, (center)Holding tank treatment for full-timers who are on the road for 200+ days per year, (right) Portable toilet treatment for tent campers..

Just as the population of RVers has risen dramatically in recent years, so have the number of products designed for their use. However, not all RVs and their users are the same in their preference of equipment use and duration of travel, so a wide product variety can be confusing for consumers trying to choose which ones are right for them.

In response, Dometic recently created a new line of eco-friendly sanitation products tailored to different RVers’ specific uses, which can be found at www.Dometic.com/Green.

“Too many choices can be overwhelming when you’re shopping for sanitation products for your particular camping style. We know RVers don’t want to spend time staring at labels and comparing products, and they don’t want to buy one-size-fits all stuff that won’t be what will work best for their travels, so we did the work for them,” said Brad Sargent, Dometic vice president of marketing. “We studied usage patterns, discovered which formulas and formats fit various kinds of campers, and took that all into consideration when we created this line. Then, we color-coded the labels to let consumers see at a glance which products were designed with them in mind.”

Full-timers will want to look for the purple label to find a holding tank treatment intended for those who are on the road 200 days or more per year. These RVers were found to need a high-volume, high-value package that still takes up minimal space, so this treatment comes in a concentrated liquid formula providing up to 32 applications in a 1-gallon container for the best value and longest-acting effectiveness. The tip-and-measure dispenser allows for sanitary, hands-free use.

Weekenders, RVers who tend to travel anywhere from two days to two weeks at a time, typically look for a quick, on-the-go sanitation product. The Clean ‘n Green holding tank packets and bowl cleaner are designed for them and are labeled in orange. The set includes convenient toss-in packets which dissolve quickly for immediate effectiveness plus a powerful effervescent bowl cleaner. Both products are biodegradable and non-toxic and come in a resealable package.

More rustic camping has a different set of requirements and thus a different approach. For tent campers and other portable toilet users, there’s the blue-labeled Max Control Advanced granulated treatment. The handy pre-measured packets contain a formula which breaks down waste while controlling odors without formaldehyde, and it’s 100 percent biodegradable for conscientious outdoor use.

Any RVer interested in green living can use the Clean ‘n Green BioRinse holding tank treatment with the dark green label, which is completely non-toxic while providing long-lasting, instant odor control. The safe, family-friendly formula treats a 20-gallon tank with just four ounces. In addition, the comfortable new Enviro-Soft two-ply toilet tissue is made from 100 percent recycled paper with no added dyes or fragrances.

“Being ‘green’ is something we’ve done at Dometic before that even became a catchphrase. It’s never been a knee-jerk, trendy thing for us,” said Sargent. “We’ve been doing things like recycling at our factories and implementing energy-savings initiatives at all of our companies worldwide for some years now. It’s not about what’s popular and good for our image. We take our environmental responsibilities seriously and we’re always looking for solutions on a long-term basis.” For more information on these products, visit www.Dometic.com/Green.

Thetford Goes Even Greener with Holding Tank Deodorants

Click Illustration for Larger Image

Green holding tank deodorants and cleaners are an important market segment for Thetford Corporation. Although its current formaldehyde-free holding tank deodorant lineup, SupremeGreen, has a strong market presence nationally, Thetford Corporation has replaced it with an even smarter environmental choice, EcoSmart.

"The upgrade is part of the company's continuous improvement program," according to Kevin Phillips, Thetford VP of marketing and sales. "Our customers want to be sure we are meeting higher standards and delivering products that provide them a meaningful choice in the market," he said.

Thetford is committed to giving RVers what they want and protecting the environment. While many products claim to be green, EcoSmart is third-party certified and meets the stringent criteria of North America's oldest, most respected environmental standard and certification agency EcoLogo. Carrying this logo means that a sanitation deodorant must control odors, decrease waste materials, be biologically based and non-toxic, not harm human, riparian or aquatic species, won't accumulate in the environment and have limited surfactants that biodegrade. An EcoSmart formulation has already been successfully marketed throughout Europe for over 20 years and in Canada for almost 10 years.

Providing 70% better odor control than other products in the "green" category, EcoSmart quickly breaks down waste and tissue to prevent messy clogs. The EcoSmart product line is available in formaldehyde-free and enzyme formulas to better meet the needs of individual outdoors enthusiasts. Both liquids are offered in 32 and 64 oz. bottles, while the formaldehyde-free formula also comes in toss-in form for the ultimate convenience and one-gallon bottles.

Headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Thetford Corp. is the world's leading supplier of sanitation and refrigeration products for the recreational vehicle, marine and heavy-duty truck industries. Thetford is a privately-held company with eight manufacturing facilities in four countries.

Pump Technology Enables Polisher to Run Constantly

Click Illustration for Larger Image

Keeping water and impurities out of a diesel engine's fuel system is important, but it doesn't have to consume the entire battery. Parker Energy Systems' patent-pending FPM-050 Fuel Polishing Module is designed to remove emulsified water from diesel fuel systems and prevent contaminant build up by maximizing the effectiveness of Racor's fuel filter/water separators. The FPM-050 offers exceptionally low power draw and long life, increasing value to the owner.

The state-of-the-art piezoelectric pump installed in the FPM-050 uses about 2W to run, equivalent to 3.6 A-hr/day. Common navigation lights even take more power to operate. With such a low power draw, the FPM-050 can run continuously and unattended for extended periods of time, without depleting the battery. When run constantly, the module prevents water and other contaminants from accumulating in the fuel system, keeping the engine at peak performance levels.

The FPM-050's piezoelectric pump also features substantially longer life than other displacement pumps. The ingenious design of the FPM-050's pump eliminates many of the wear points that others typically have, enabling owners of the FPM-050 to enjoy many years of use without seeing performance diminish over time.

Parker Energy Systems' FPM-050 Fuel Polishing Module has a price of $587. The piezoelectric pump and Racor fuel filter/water separator are included.
