The 58th annual Caravan Salon wrapped up over the weekend with record crowds perusing 2,100 RVs on display.
From Aug. 31 to Sept. 8. visitors, trade reps and exhibitors from 31 countries flowed through the 13 exhibition halls that make up the fairgrounds at Düsseldorf, Germany.
Described at the world’s largest trade fair for motorhomes and caravans, event results show it as the most visited trade fair for caravanning and the best attended leisure and holiday trade fair in Europe.
A headcount of visitors to this year’s Caravan Salon was estimated at 268,000 people, an increase from the 250,211 in attendance at the 2018 show, according to show organizers.
The Düsseldorf fairgrounds, which measures 2.3 million square feet, held nearly 2,100 RVs plus accessories, technical equipment, attachment parts, awnings and mobile homes. Visitors also were able to view exhibits for campsites, RV parks and travel destinations.
“New materials, various drive technologies and solutions for weight reduction all show that the industry is intensively concerned with many topics of the future,” Caravaning Industry Association President Hermann Pfaff says. “Many manufacturers are looking to the future with great optimism.”
Noting the change in ownership, Erwin Hymer Group Board Chairman Martin Brandt declared “the takeover of Erwin Hymer by Thor Industries creates a win-win situation for all parties involved. Our broad-based portfolio offers the right solution for all customers worldwide. With the younger audience and many beginners at the trade fair, it is clear that caravanning is the trend.”
Next year’s Caravan Salon is scheduled for the same venue from Aug. 28-Sept. 6, 2020.
