Elkhart County Uses Social Media to Find New Employees

Wed Jun 22, 2016

ELKHART, Indiana — Several RV manufacturers are having a hard time finding qualified workers to staff their plants with Elkhart County's unemployment rate around 3.5 percent. Some notable RV makers in the area have been complaining about the issue to the Elkhart Area Chamber of Commerce, saying this is a huge issue.

Kyle Hannon, president of the chamber, says as a result, numerous positions at Elkhart County RV plants simply aren't being filled. He hears from manufacturers from a variety of industries in the county who are trying to expand or even just meet demand, but there aren't enough workers to do so.

To widen the applicant pool, the Economic Development Corp. of Elkhart County has launched a social media ad campaign connecting area employers who post job listings online with job seekers across the country. Ads from local companies seeking workers appear in front of people in areas with high unemployment and a significant amount of skilled manufacturing workers as part of the campaign.
