Pennsylvania State House Proposes Bill for More Recreational Facilitie

Wed Jun 29, 2016

A controversial plan to test the idea of allowing more privately operated recreational and hospitality facilities to be developed in state parks is positioned for a vote by the Pennsylvania state House as early as Tuesday.

Despite the criticisms and mounting pressure from the environmental and conservation communities to scuttle the legislation, Rep. Brian Ellis, R-Butler County, the sponsor of House Bill 2013, stands firm in his commitment to move forward with pushing legislation that would encourage private development in the 121 state parks.

"It moves us in a direction of increasing the traffic to our wonderful state parks and moving us into the 21st century as far as how we deliver recreational opportunities," Ellis said on the House floor on Monday.
