MIDDLEBURY, Indiana — Police are investigating the theft of two trailers valued at nearly $275,000 combined taken from Indiana Transport.

The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department said two trailers worth well over $125,000 a piece were stolen from Indiana Transport in the 10000 block of C.R. 2 in Middlebury. The business has a network of drivers which tows RVs manufactured in northern Indiana to and from dealers around the country, according to its website.

Company President Charlie Roeder said the two trailers stolen are high-end fifth wheel Mobile Suites trailers manufactured by DRV Luxury Suites in Howe. He said the suspect entered the storage yard through the main gate, but didn't force entry – suggesting the the suspect either was a former employee of Indiana Transport who still had the code to unlock the gate or received the code from a current employee.
