Thor's Jayco Acquisition Will Affect More Than 11,000 Employees

Tue Jul 5, 2016

ELKHART, Indiana — A merger of two giants in the local RV industry won't bring many changes for employees, but significantly alters the make-up of the industry behind the scenes.

Thor Industries, the world's largest RV maker, announced Friday it would acquire the family-owned Jayco Inc., a Middlebury-based manufacturer, for $576 million. But little will change for employees when they return to work Tuesday after the holiday weekend, including the management team at Jayco.

For Elkhart County, where Thor and Jayco employ a combined 11,200 people, the acquisition is big news. But Brian Clark, chairman of the Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce, says the change shouldn't affect the area in a negative way.
