Tue Jul 5, 2016

MIDDLEBURY, Indiana — The mood was one of cautious optimism in downtown Middlebury Friday afternoon following news that RV manufacturing powerhouse Thor Industries had purchased Middlebury-based Jayco Corp. at a cost of $576 million.

A fixture in the town since its founding by Lloyd and Bertha Bontrager in 1968, Jayco Corp. has since grown to become one of Elkhart County’s largest employers, boasting 3,200 employees producing more than 51,000 recreational vehicles per year.

Speaking to how the new change in ownership might affect the town and the company’s employees, some area businesses are confident that the Bontrager family has left the company in good hands.
