RV News Exclusive: RVDA of Alberta Nixes Golf due to Poor Registration

Tue Jul 26, 2016

The RVDA of Alberta has canceled its 2016 golf tournament in Las Vegas, scheduled to begin Nov. 6.

RVDA of Alberta Executive Vice President Dan Merkowsky says the pre-registration only garnered 19 people to play in the tournament. The association had made a commitment to Bear's Best Golf Course course for 72 people, so the association was forced to cancel.

"We had to make a decision. Our economy hasn't been good, the Canadian dollar hasn't been good," Merkowsky says. "We had a good turnout two years ago with about 100 people when the economy and the industry was doing a lot better."

This would have been the second golf tournament, which has a commitment with Bally's in Las Vegas to host its Annual General Meeting there with the golf tournament taking place every other year. Merkowsky says the association will look at it again in two years. The annual meeting is still scheduled for Nov. 7, the same day the RV Dealers International Convention/Expo begins in the city.
