RVIA Economic Impact Study

The Recreation Vehicle Industry Association commissioned an Economic Impact Study on the RV industry, released on June 7, 2016. The study found that the RV industry contributes about $49.7 billion in economic output or 0.28 percent of the Gross Domestic Product. Through its production and distribution linkages, the industry impacts firms in 426 of the 440 sectors of the United States economy.

Nationwide, the industry is responsible for 216,170 jobs, both directly and inderectly, creating an economic impact of $37.5 billion. The full study results, along with each individual state and congressional district's economic impact is available on the website by clicking here .

Daimler Announces $500 Million Expansion in South Carolina

LADSON, South Carolina - Daimler AG announced a major expansion at the North Charleston plant where it assembles its Sprinter vans.

The announcement made last week unveiled plans for a $500 million expansion of the operation expected to mean at least 1,300 new jobs. Currently, the plant assembles vans in Ladson under the Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner brands from parts made overseas and shipped to this country in kits. On approximately 200 acres off of Palmetto Commerce Parkway, Mercedes-Benz Vans will create a completely new body shop, a paint shop and an assembly line.

The company website says the plant opened in 1999 as a Western Star truck plant. Daimler acquired the building in 2006 and began producing Dodge and Freightliner Sprinters.
