Mount Pleasant, Texas KOA Under New Management

Thu Sep 29, 2016

Jason and Amanda Baker left their successful corporate careers to enter the world of campground ownership when they decided to take over the Mount Pleasant, Texas KOA.

“Owning our own business was both a dream and a passion for the two of us.," they say.

Living just outside of Dallas, Jason worked as a manager for an industrial turbine company for more than 15 years, while Amanda worked in commercial real estate. With two young children, however, they felt it was time for a change. After evaluating their list of things they’d enjoy, which included being outdoors and serving others, they began to explore campgrounds for sale.

“We knew we wanted something in Texas as our family is here,” Jason says. “Ideally within three hours of Dallas and within a specific price range. We looked at everything for sale; this one was in our price range and the distance.”

Since purchasing the campground in July, the Bakers have been hard at work. Jason focuses on the landscaping and maintenance needs of the 13-acre property while Amanda and their one employee work in the office.

“Getting the park up to where we want it has taken a lot of hours,” Jason says. “But I enjoy the work. And I get to be with our son; he rides on the mower with me.”

The Mount Pleasant KOA offers spacious pull-through and back-in RV sites with up to 50-amp service and full hookups. Comfortable Camping Cabins also are available, and Tent Sites — both primitive and those with water and electric — also are popular. Amenities include a pool, and a treed catch-and-release fishing pond that guests of all ages can enjoy.

“What we’re shooting for is a family campground,” Jason says. “We don’t have wild parties — it’s quiet. People have fun, but respect one another. We get church folks that come through and stay in groups, and it’s just a great place to bring kids to fish, swim and hang out in the game room. It’s the environment we want for guest families — and for ours.”

Located at 2322 Greenhill Road, the Mount Pleasant KOA is one of 490 open-to-the-public KOA campgrounds in the Kampgrounds of America system in the U.S. and Canada. It is open year-round.
