Storm Evacuees Turn to RV Campgrounds for Shelter

Mon Oct 10, 2016

MCCORMICK COUNTY, South Carolina - As hotel rooms across Augusta are filling up, evacuees are turning to local campgrounds for shelter from Hurricane Matthew.

It's unpacking time for Mark and Sheila Fulton at Modoc Campground in McCormick County, just outside of Clark's Hill. But they say it's not for a vacation - it's for their safety.

The couple from Beaufort County are just part of the wave of evacuees coming from the coast from Hurricane Matthew. Mark says most of their friends and neighbors have several animals and love camping, which makes it tougher to find a place to stay during an emergency.
