ELKHART, Indiana — An iconic landmark in the Elkhart sports scene could be studied to see if it can provide an even broader impact to the community.
The city's Redevelopment Commission is set to take up a $30,000 proposal to study the feasibility of transforming North Side Gym into a "multi-purpose indoor sports complex and event venue." The study will be done in conjunction with one that the county is already performing to see if even more convention space is warranted at the RV/MH Hall of Fame, near County Road 17 and the Indiana Toll Road.
"North Side is a 6,000-7,000 seat arena in the heart of the city that is currently being underutilized," says Mike Huber, sports development manager at the Elkhart County Convention and Visitors Bureau and vice president of the county's Redevelopment Commission. "We want to see if there is a way that North Side could benefit the community more broadly."
