RVIA Economic Impact Study

The Recreation Vehicle Industry Association commissioned an Economic Impact Study on the RV industry, released on June 7, 2016. The study found that the RV industry contributes about $49.7 billion in economic output or 0.28 percent of the Gross Domestic Product. Through its production and distribution linkages, the industry impacts firms in 426 of the 440 sectors of the United States economy.

Nationwide, the industry is responsible for 216,170 jobs, both directly and inderectly, creating an economic impact of $37.5 billion. The full study results, along with each individual state and congressional district's economic impact is available on the website by clicking here .

Former Massachusetts RV Dealership Vice President Passes Away

148466802489290.jpgPLAINVILLE, Massachusetts - Alvin Macdonald, Jr., 88, passed away on Jan. 6 in Sturdy Memorial Hospital, Attleboro. He was the husband of the late Eileen R. (Cote') Macdonald and former vice president and manager of Macdonald Mobile Home and Trailer Sales in North Attleboro.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island on Aug. 25, 1928, he was the son of the late Alvin Sr. and Irene (Cottrell) Macdonald.

He grew up in Pawtucket, Rhode Island and was a 1946 graduate of East Senior High School. During World War II, Macdonald served in the United States Air Force as a sergeant from December 1946 until his honorable discharge in November 1949. In 1950, he attended the University of Rhode Island.

In 1954, Alvin joined his father in the family business of Macdonald Mobile Home and Trailer Sales, where he later went on to be Vice President and Manager until its sale in 1977. It was at this time that the family business moved to Plainville as Macdonald's RV Center and continues to this day.

Macdonald is survived by his two daughters: Karen Macdonald of Buzzards Bay and Colleen Girard of Cheshire, Connecticut; his three grandchildren: Douglas Girard of Maryland, Jeffrey Girard of Pennsylvania and Nicole Pascucci of Wareham; and a great-granddaughter Ellieanna Zecco of Wareham.

Visiting will be held on Thursday, Jan. 19 in the Sperry McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove St., North Attleboro from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will immediately follow at 7 p.m. A burial will be held at a later date.
