Escapees RV Club Rally Attracts More than 2,600 Attendees

Tue Mar 28, 2017

149071934220653.jpgTUCSON, Arizona - Escapees RV Club’s 2017 Escapade opened with a hearty dose of humor and ended with a bit of the bunny hop. The five-day event took place at the Pima County Fairgrounds just outside of Tucson, Arizona. With more than 900 rigs and 2,600 attendees, Escapees members filled the property with laughter, conversation and lots of hugs.

During Sunday’s opening ceremonies, Escapees co-founder Kay Peterson summed up her thoughts on the 57th Escapade with one phrase.

“This is what happens when you turn things over to your kids, she said.

In this statement, Peterson references how Escapade began as a small social gathering for like-minded RVers and has grown over the past 39 years to include educational seminars, nightly entertainment, a vendor market and much more, all under the leadership of her children and grandchildren. She commended the club’s leadership and membership for continuing to grow and change to meet the needs and wants of RVers.

One such change is a recent addition to Escapade, Kidscapade. This gathering within Escapade focuses on entertaining and educating the youngest RVers. Now in its second year, Kidscapade attracted 65 attendees aged six months to 16 years. They enjoyed water games, trips to local museums and participated in Escapade’s Got Talent, the club’s annual talent show.

To celebrate Peterson’s 90th birthday, the farewell party that typically closes Escapade turned into a dance party with live music, cupcakes and birthday wishes.
Hundreds of attendees gathered to wish Peterson a happy birthday and celebrate her accomplishments with Escapees.

As quickly as they arrived, members headed to their next destination following Friday’s hitch-up breakfast. Many will come together again in Sedalia, Missouri for the 2018 Escapade next May.
