Campers Inn Dealership Has Several RVs Catch Fire During Blaze

Thu Apr 13, 2017

CLARKSVILLE, Indiana — The Clarksville Fire Department is investigating what started as a mattress fire and later engulfed several vehicles at Campers Inn RV late Wednesday afternoon.

Clarksville firefighters responded to Newman Avenue around 4:30 p.m. When crews arrived, there were up to several hundred mattresses on fire, Chief Brandon Skaggs said, according to a story by the Clarksville News and Tribune.

The mattresses were located under a carport next to a lot of RVs at Campers Inn RV, a 38-year-old dealership formerly known as Tom Stinnett Derby City RV. The dealership is located between Clarion Hotel and Derby Dinner Playhouse.

The fire soon spread to multiple RVs, engulfing some and damaging others. Loud popping noises were attributed to propane tanks catching fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
