Dometic Employees Help Build Habitat House for Fellow Employee

Mon Jun 19, 2017

149194279222265.jpgELKHART, Indiana – Mechiel Dues says her granddaughters might be even more excited about the family's new home than she is.

The 51-year-old Dometic employee was joined by about 50 coworkers in the parking lot of the company's Industrial Parkway plant on Friday to get started on the home. Habitat for Humanity of Elkhart County approved her for a home after she learned through her church she could apply to the program in 2015, according to a story by The Elkhart Truth.

"It's a new chapter in my life. This means the world to me," she said as work crews took a break from the panel build Friday just before 10 a.m. "I'll be a homeowner – I'm going from paying rent to paying a mortgage."

Dometic employees prefabricated wood framed walls for the home and disassmbled them in sections. They will be put back together when construction starts in late July on a lot Dues picked near Mary Beck Elementary School, where Dues' granddaughters are students.
