RVIA Economic Impact Study

The Recreation Vehicle Industry Association commissioned an Economic Impact Study on the RV industry, released on June 7, 2016. The study found that the RV industry contributes about $49.7 billion in economic output or 0.28 percent of the Gross Domestic Product. Through its production and distribution linkages, the industry impacts firms in 426 of the 440 sectors of the United States economy.

Nationwide, the industry is responsible for 216,170 jobs, both directly and inderectly, creating an economic impact of $37.5 billion. The full study results, along with each individual state and congressional district's economic impact is available on the website by clicking here .

RVIA Hosting Drop In Lithium Ion Battery Installation Webinar

Thu Jul 6, 2017

The Recreation Vehicle Industry Association will present a webinar on “Drop In” Lithium Ion Battery installations on July 25 at 2 p.m. EDST from industry experts Denis Phares and Sean Nichols, co-founders of Dragonfly Energy. The webinar is designed to last between 30–45 minutes; perhaps longer depending on the questions that are raised.

Lithium Ion batteries are a newer form of energy storage. They are beginning to take a more mainstream position in the energy storage role over traditional lead acid batteries in the industry. There are significant differences between the traditional technology and the new Lithium Ion technology that should be understood before replacing lead acid batteries. While Lithium Ion batteries serve as an electrical low-voltage source, that is about the limit of similarities between Lithium Ion and lead acid batteries. Join Phares and Nichols on July 25 to discover what makes Lithium Ion and lead acid batteries different and why you as an Engineer or OEM need to understand these differences to ensure safety and overall performance.

The webinar will focus on:

• The major types of Lithium Ion batteries, their uses, strengths and weaknesses
• Safety fundamentals regarding Battery Management Systems
 Over/Under Voltage Protection
 High Current Protection/Short Circuit Protection
 Low/High Temperature Protection
 Low Temperature Charging Protection
 Cell balancing
• Examination of common failure modes and controls
• Standard questions to be considered when designing a Lithium Ion system
• Description of the most common type of lithium batteries for drop-in applications
• Understanding Battery Discharge Performance
 Continuous Discharge
 Surge Discharge
 Cranking
 Cycle Life
 Cell Performance
 Pack Performance

This webinar will be for those designing or installing lithium batteries in place of lead-cell batteries in towable RVs.

Phares and Nichols have been working on mobile and off-grid power projects for more than 10 years, focusing on RV OEM aftermarket channels for the last 5 years. Phares is the CEO of Dragonfly Energy and is an industry expert in Lithium Ion Battery science. Nichols is the chief operating officer of Dragonfly Energy and has an extensive background and knowledge in LiFePO4 batteries, inverters, converters and related components. Dragonfly Energy is a technology company that is focused on reducing the cost of manufacturing Lithium Ion batteries. Their team is focused on displacing deep cycle lead acid batteries around the globe for 12-, 24- and 48-volt applications.
