Sotheby’s Auctions 1959 Mercedes-Benz 0 319 Camper

Fri Jan 12, 2018

151579236062258.jpgSotheby’s Arizona is auctioning a 1959 Mercedes-Benz 0 319 vintage van with modern camping updates that could bring up to $200,000 at auction Jan. 18 and 19, according to the auction site.

While the camper looks somewhat like a Volkswagen, it features an engine in the front, and the engine is a late-model fuel-injected Mercedes. The transmission is also updated with Gear Vendor overdrive and an extra oil cooler.

"This incredible 0319 bus has been fully restored while being both extensively and subtly modified into a camper," states the lot description. “Its prior owner, an eccentric computer engineer, used his extensive skills to painstakingly restore and upgrade this unique vehicle over a 15-year period."

Inside the restorer included leather seats and a “comfortable” rear berth, with a custom-made cabinet housing the sink, stove and storage space, the description states. The upgrade also includes dual audio systems in the rear and front, again in custom-made cabinets, along with a “cleverly-stowed” solar panel for traveling off the grid.
