Exclusive: Fast-Growing Grand Design Hits 50,000 Units

Tue Feb 20, 2018

151551817623794.pngGrand Design Recreational Vehicle Company hit a milestone of producing more than 50,000 units before celebrating its fifth anniversary last December, according to Marketing Communications Manager Tom Holt.

“We were at 40,000 units in the end of July, and basically by the end of the year we reached 50,000 units,” Holt says. The company estimates its yearly growth rate is five times faster than the growth rate of the combined towables market, as figured by Statistical Surveys Inc.

Grand Design is the third largest producer of RVs in North America, following Thor and Forest River, Holt says, and the company celebrated the milestone with a catered meal for all the employees and a personal thank you from Don Clark, president and CEO of Grand Design. Grand Design, wholly owned by Winnebago, now ranks in the top 10 of towable brands.

“It is very humbling to have accomplished so much in such a short time,” says Clark in a statement from the Middlebury, Indiana, headquarters. “We need to take a few moments to say, ‘thanks,’ and reflect on just what our Grand Design owners, dealers and team members have done over the past few years.

Unfortunately, Grand Design managers weren’t thinking about the milestone back in December and didn’t mark the unit when it came off the line.

“Yeah, it could have been a museum piece or something,” Holt says.

Grand Design RV manufactures the Reflection fifth wheel and travel trailer, flagship Solitude extended stay fifth wheel, luxury Momentum toy hauler, lightweight Imagine travel trailer, and introductory level Transcend travel Trailer product lines. Since its founding in 2012, Grand Design RV has become one of the fastest growing RV companies in history.
