The facility is housed in The Big Red School House and Community Center, known locally as “Big Red.”

Big Red serves as the national headquarters and training center for the National RV Training Academy (NRVTA), the educational affiliate of the National RV Inspectors Association (NRVIA).

Terry Cooper, managing director of the NRVTA, is a master certified RV technician and a professional technical trainer. He is a recipient of the National Scholastic Achievement Award from RVIA (Recreational Vehicle Industry Association) and currently serves as the president of the National RV Inspectors Association.

“We seek to provide accelerated, hands-on training for highly-qualified technicians and inspectors in the rapidly growing RV industry,” Cooper says. “Training is designed in streamlined, concentrated modules of instruction similar to successful military and union trade school programs throughout North America.”

Designed to reflect the style of the training facility of Anheuser-Busch’s Clydesdale horses, Big Red has three large classrooms, a conference room, banquet/reception spaces, expo space, and a fully-equipped catering kitchen.

The high-ceiling, 6,000-square-foot open space includes four large bays for hands-on RV inspector and technician labs. A loft-style observation deck also provides students excellent visual access to RV rooftop inspection and repair.

The National RV Training Academy has provided courses for RV owners and aspiring RV technicians and inspectors since 2012. These courses with hands-on lab training were conducted in various cities throughout the US. To date, NRVTA has 1,200 graduates. Its goal is to equip 5,000 inspectors and technicians in order to fill the ever-widening gap of supply and demand for qualified professionals in the RV service industry.

Due to constantly changing venues, the outdoor classes were often complicated with unpredictable weather conditions and the lack of on-site availability of tools and equipment. Now Athens, Texas is home for the highest quality RV inspector and technician training where labs as well as classes are under cover. The permanent location also allows student access to many sample systems (electrical, refrigerator, water heater, furnace, water pumps).
