The United States House of Representatives adopted a resolution May 26, “recognizing and honoring the 100 years of enjoyment of RVs in the United States.”

The resolution passed by a unanimous voice vote. The U.S. Senate also recognized the RV industry’s Centennial by adopting a resolution May 14 that officially declares June 2010 to be "RV Centennial Celebration Month."

The House resolution, sponsored by Rep. Joe Donnelly (D-IN), had 54 additional co-sponsors. The Senate resolution was introduced by Senator Evan Bayh of Indiana, and also championed by bipartisan cosponsors from key RV producing states including Senators Richard Lugar of Indiana, Mike Crapo of Idaho, Jeff Merkley of Oregon, Ron Wyden of Oregon, Charles Schumer of New York and George Voinovich of Ohio.

RVIA Vice President of Government Affairs Dianne Farrell said, "We are so pleased that both the House and Senate have now officially honored the RV industry on the occasion of its 100th Anniversary. Our industry owes Repesentative Donnelly, and Senators Bayh and Lugar our thanks for leading this effort to recognize our industry. We also thank Senators Crapo, Merkley, Wyden, Voinovich and Schumer for co-sponsoring the Senate resolution."

The federal resolutions follow on the heels of state resolutions that have been adopted over the past few months. The state legislatures of Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, and Oklahoma have all marked the occasion of the RV industry's Centennial with official resolutions, and the governors of Missouri, Nebraska, and Oregon have also issued proclamations in honor of the 100th Anniversary.

In Florida, the Florida RV Trade Association (FRVTA) worked closely with State Senator Mike Haridopolos to get its resolution passed. In Indiana, the Recreation Vehicle Indiana Council (RVIC) worked with the Indiana state legislature to have that state's resolution adopted, and Winnebago Industries worked closely with the Iowa legislature for its adoption of a resolution "in support of the ideals and goals" of the RV Centennial. Maurice LeBlanc of Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in Robert, Louisiana, worked with Louisiana State Representative Steve Pugh to get the resolution passed there.

Farrell continued, "The United States economy is driven largely by consumer spending and by small and medium sized businesses. These small and medium-sized business owners are the very people who comprise the RV industry and we extend our thanks to the states that passed resolutions in honor of our 100th Anniversary."
