Baird Reports RV Shipment Optimism

RV dealer inventories remain near record lows as the industry works to ramp up production, but Baird’s November Recreation Sector Update reports optimism surrounding 2021 RV shipments.

Shipment current conditions were rated at a 64, down from a record 91 posted in August and an increase from 29 in the spring at the pandemic’s start.

“Sentiment continues to remain positive in both the 3-5 year outlook and current conditions as consumers pursue outdoor activities,” Baird stated. “…participants remain optimistic 2021 shipments may exceed 500,000 units.”

The report came out a day before RVIA reported 2021 shipment projections of 502,582.

OEMs continue to navigate complicated supply chains and demand increase with the resurgence of COVID-19, Baird stated.

The recreation sector continues to be a key trend beneficiary around increasing outdoor activity, Baird stated, causing a change in consumer demand.

“Backlogs continue to remain extremely robust and, in some cases, are building onto record levels as OEMs look to work through increases in retail and replenish inventory in 2021,” Baird stated.
