Black Book: Wholesale RV Values Begin to Stabilize

While RV dealers are still reporting brisk sales, with July shipment numbers reportedly at their highest since October 2018, the prices of motorhomes and towables declined at auction in July.

“Dealers have been buying everything they could get their hands on for months now, and at some point, they will begin slow down a little as their lots get restocked to a more typical level for the season,” Eric Lawrence, Black Book principal automotive analyst of specialty vehicles, said.

According to Black Book’s monthly specialty vehicle report, the average selling price for motorized units was $48,462, which is down $3,112 (6.1 percent) from June. Meanwhile, the average towable selling price was $17,010, down $1,321 (7.2 percent) from June.

In 2019, the average motor home sold for $48,573, and the average towable unit sold for $14,347.

For motorhomes, including type A, B, and C units:

  • The average selling price was $48,462, compared to $48,573 in 2019.
  • Auction volume was unchanged from June 2020. The average model year was 2012.

For towables, including travel trailers and fifth wheels

  • The average selling price was $17,010, down $1,321 (7.2 percent) from the June 2020.
  • In July 2019, the average selling price was $14,347.
  • Auction volume was down 13 percent from the June 2020. The average model year was 2012.
