Legacy Power Sports & RV spent the first month of the year stocking up on RVs to fill the lot at its new home in Island City, Oregon.
The lot at 11201 Island Avenue is just around the corner from the dealership’s previous home. General Manager Shane Smith said the new lot is more than twice the size and offers greater visibility than its previous site.
The new lot was previously home to The Other Guys Auto Sales dealership.
“You could probably throw a rock from the old location and hit this one,” Smith said. “Our previous location was a little tight. It was just over 2 acres. The lot we are on now is about 5 acres. It has significantly better exposure. All of that was what led us to make the move. We wanted some room to expand.”
Smith said the transition began in December, and the dealership is approximately 95% settled into its new home. A grand opening ceremony is planned for March. The final date is weather-dependent and still to be determined.
Legacy carries Northwood travel trailers and fifth wheels and Keystone’s Springdale travel trailer line. Most of its RVs are built locally.
“We are the hometown dealer for Northwood, which is built just 6 miles from us,” Smith said. “Most of the Keystone products I carry are built over in Pendleton (Oregon), about 45 minutes away.”
Smith said he brought in over a dozen additional RVs to fill the new lot. Legacy, which is also a powersports dealer, filled some of the new space with the CF Moto side-by-side line.
Smith said the dealership is split nearly evenly between RV and powersports sales. On the repair side, RVs make up approximately 60% of the work.
The new location’s indoor space is a bit smaller. Smith said he and owner Robert Bates are planning a 3,000- to 5,000-square-foot expansion in the next couple of years. Smith said he would like to expand the dealership’s service area.
Wayne Barnes continues to serve as the dealership’s service manager and lead technician. Barnes is well-known among Northwood owner groups for his expertise with the brand. Barnes remained with Legacy when the dealership expanded from powersports to RV sales by acquiring Thunder RV in 2023.
