The RV Technical Institute (RVTI) in Elkhart, Indiana, held its first Level 1 technician class in January. The institute now has four additional Level 1 classes scheduled. The upcoming schedule includes sessions from March 9-13, April 6-10, May 18-22 and June 1-5.
The Level 1 class prepares pre-delivery inspector technicians with skills to prepare an RV for customer delivery. Students learn to verify the operation of all RV components. Level 1 certification requires instruction and written and skill-based exams.
This class is offered at no charge during 2020 for those already in the industry. For those outside the industry, the cost is $1,000.
A pilot of the 7- to 8-week Level 2 class is currently underway. Some minor tweaks will be made to the curriculum before the next class is scheduled.
Level 2 provides theoretical knowledge of all RV systems and components. Students learn to do basic diagnostics, troubleshooting and repairs.
RVTI continues to expand its hub and spoke training program. This includes the addition of Authorized Licensed Partners. These partners have access to RVTI curriculum and materials and can offer the classes on a local or regional basis. Additionally, a Train the Trainer course, available only to Authorized Licensed Partners, will be offered in Elkhart on April 13 and June 29. Dealers interested in becoming Authorized Licensed Partners can call (800) 664-0154 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
