RV Technical Institute (RVTI) Executive Director Curt Hemmeler said the institute’s Level 1 and Level 2 tests and a study guide will be available in Spanish for the first time. The materials are expected to be available by the end of the year.
Hemmeler was in Colorado this week to celebrate RVTI’s new partnership with a local high school. He said the RVTI Board of Directors approved the move to offering materials in Spanish at a meeting in late September.
“Obviously, this enhances our ability to help recruit and certify even more folks beyond just English-speaking technicians,” Hemmeler said. “We know there is a heavy concentration of Spanish speakers in certain parts of the country. They can usually function day-to-day, but reading can be more challenging.”
Hemmeler said he was thankful for the board’s willingness to move forward with Spanish-language materials.
“We will evaluate the amount of involvement and the participation in 2026,” Hemmeler said. “If the justification is there, we may move to putting all the books and materials into Spanish. At this point, it is just the tests and the study guide.”
RVTI plans to connect with RVIA and RVDA members to spread the word and start distributing the materials when they are available.
“There has been enough demand for this that Jon Ferrando of Blue Compass RV brought it up two years ago with the board of directors,” Hemmeler said. “He gets the first kudos for getting the board to discuss this and have these conversations.
“This was enough of an issue for Jon in his stores to say, ‘This would be a nice thing to add.’ This will help us cast a wider net when everyone is competing for technicians right now.”
