J.D. Power Records Year-End RV Value Declines

RV values concluded 2024 in decline, according to J.D. Power’s Market Insights Recreational Vehicle 2024 Year-End report.

The company said the 2024 fourth-quarter value decline followed seasonal patterns similar to 2023. J.D. Power said values for all RV types except fifth wheels were notably lower compared with the previous year.

The report concluded that depreciation in the second half of 2024 was generally higher compared with the same period in 2023.

Travel trailer values averaged 5.3% lower in the November-December period compared with the September-October period. The values were 3.6% lower year-over-year.

Fifth wheels averaged 5.6% lower in November-December compared with September-October. Fifth wheel values were 1.5% lower year-over-year.

Type A motorhomes totaled 4.2% lower in November-December compared with September-October. Values were 1.5% lower year-over-year.

Type C motorhomes numbered 4.8% lower in November-December compared with September-October. The vehicles were 4.7% lower year-over-year.

Camping trailer values averaged 6.5% lower in November-December compared with September-October. The values were 8.4% lower year-over-year.

Truck campers totaled 3.4% lower in November-December compared with September-October. The values averaged 4.7% lower year-over-year.

The report also tracked the most researched brands online in 2024.

Among travel trailer brands, Keystone RV was searched most, accounting for 30% of all views. Jayco was next at 15% followed by Grand Design RV (13%), Heartland RV (10%) and Forest River’s Cherokee (8%).

Among Type A motorhome brands, Thor Motor Coach was the most searched brand at 21% of views. Winnebago and Tiffin’s Allego were next at 17% each.

Among Type C brands, Thor Motor Coach again was first at 30% of views. Jayco and Winnebago were next at 14% each, followed by Forest River’s Coachmen (12%) and Sunseeker (9%).

Among camping trailer brands, Forest River’s Rockwood (30%) and Flagstaff (18%) brands far outpaced Aliner (10%) and Jayco (9%).

Among truck camper brands, Lance Camper (42%) led Forest River’s Palomino (17%) by a wide margin with Northwood’s Arctic Fox third (16%).
