Kampgrounds of America (KOA) unveiled an initiative to get the newest camper generation involved in RVing and outdoor travel.
The Kid’s Guide to Camping is written by author Eileen Ogintz. The 128-page guide offers kids and their families tips, tricks and facts about activities such as RVing and off-roading. It includes games and puzzles to enjoy around a campfire, KOA stated, as well as advice from KOA camping kids.
“One of the coolest parts of this guide is the inclusion of real tips from the children of some of our KOA campground owners,” KOA Chief Marketing Officer Whitney Scott said. “Pairing the first-hand knowledge of our youngest KOA campers with the expertise of writer Eileen Ogintz really created a fun, informative book for kids.”
Ogintz is a national family travel expert whose syndicated column, Taking the Kids, is widely distributed. She also created a website – TakingtheKids.com – to help families maximize their vacations. Ogintz authored seven family travel books in addition to the new guide.
KOA’s 2021 North American Camping Report found 54% of campers have children in the household. Among first-time campers, the number traveling with kids is even higher, at 75%.
“With more young children trying out camping with their families, the release of this book really makes sense,” Scott said. “Moreover, with many campgrounds adding even more amenities and activities to cater to families, like family-style bathrooms, splash pads and themed weekends, supporting that work with a quality publication creates great synergy.”
The Kid’s Guide to Camping is available at Barnes & Noble, Amazon and select KOA campgrounds.
