The National RV Training Academy (NRVTA) announced it will launch a new RV generator maintenance class for RV technicians. The advanced training course starts Oct. 5 in Athens, Texas, and will be taught by former Generac technician Craig Johnson.

NRVTA said the class will teach technicians how to properly inspect gasoline-powered and diesel generators; how to correctly diagnose problems starting the generator or delivering the proper power load; how to diagnose problems with fuel and oil delivery; and how to determine whether the generator can be repaired or needs to be replaced.

“A lot of RV owners and technicians consider generators to be a real mystery. We’re going to run students through a variety of hands-on labs to help them fully understand how generators work as well as how to complete a true inspection of an RV generator,” said Johnson, who is certified by the Electrical Generating Systems Association. “We will pay a lot of attention to safety while bringing technicians up to speed quickly. When they’ve completed the training, students should be able to troubleshoot 80 percent of problems with any RV generator.”

NRVTA created a promotional video for the class, which can be found on YouTube by clicking here.

The deadline for enrolling is Oct. 2 and the cost to attend the five-day course is $1,500. Upon completion, students will earn a certificate and 35 continuing education hours that can be applied to maintaining credentials as an NRVTA Certified or Registered RV Technician.

The generators class is the fifth hands-on advanced training course offered by NRVTA. The others focus on air conditioners and heat pumps; absorption refrigerators; water heaters and furnaces; and RV exterior systems.

Another advanced course on maintaining RV solar systems will be starting soon, NRVTA stated.
