NRVTA Hires Terry Lewis as Technical Instructor

Terry Lewis joined the staff of the National RV Training Academy (NRVTA) earlier this month as a part-time instructor, the school announced Monday.

Lewis will focus on teaching men and women to become certified RV technicians and helping them set up independent businesses of their own. He will specialize in offering advanced training for absorption refrigeration as well as air conditioning, water heaters, furnaces and RV exteriors.

Lewis completed RV technician training in 2008 through a special program at Texas State Technical College in Waco, Texas. His instructor at the time was Terry “Cooper” Cooper, the founder of NRVTA.

Shortly after completing the program, Lewis set up shop as an RV technician in Rockport, Texas, near Corpus Christi, where he continues to operate Happy Trails RV Repair. His company offers on-site and mobile RV service.

“I’m really happy to be teaching at NRVTA,” Lewis said, noting that he’s wrapping up his first class this week. “I enjoy meeting students who have the same drive today that I did back in 2008 when I went through training. They are excited to start working on their own and being in control of their lives and income.”

The ability to share his years of technical knowledge and business skills with others just starting out as RV technicians holds the most appeal for Lewis.

“They want to do something different with their lives and make money on their own,” Lewis added. “There is such a huge demand for RV repairs that these graduates will have no problem making a good living as mobile RV technicians.”

Cooper was delighted to bring one of his former students onboard to teach others.

“Terry and I have kept in touch all these years, and it has been fun watching him succeed as a business owner himself,” said Cooper. “He is a gifted instructor with a real passion for helping RVers stay on the road, and for teaching people how to fix RVs quickly and efficiently.”
