The National RV Training Academy (NRVTA) has opened enrollment for the next five-week certified RV technicians training class. The class will take place April 6 to May 7 in Athens, Texas. Following the classes, students will be eligible to take a test to attain NRVTA RV technician certification.

The series begins with a one-week RV basic maintenance class. After the first week of training, students can test to become an NRVTA registered RV technician.

During the remaining weeks, students will learn about electrical, propane, water systems and diagnostic tools. Other courses in the series will cover ACs and heat pumps, absorption refrigerators, propane and electrical circuitry of Dometic and Norcold equipment. A study of 12-volt DC and 120-volt AC troubleshooting, water heaters and furnaces and exterior systems will follow. Classes on Suburban, Dometic and Atwood components and how to diagnose, repair or replace thermostats and ignition systems will conclude the series.

Upon completion of the program, students can test to earn their NRVTA RV service technician certification. This credential qualifies graduates to work at RV dealerships or operate their own mobile RV technician business.

“We have been training RV technicians for 10 years and have the course material down to a science,” NRVTA President Terry Cooper said. “Our focus is to support dealership service techs and entrepreneurs who desire to run a successful mobile repair business.

“We accomplish in five weeks what other training organization do in two months or longer,” he said. “One of the many benefits of taking training at Athens is that students have access to a variety of different RVs at the adjacent RV park. We don’t just focus on one particular brand or family of brands.”

The cost to complete the five-week session is $8,538 and includes five course exams and two certification exams. Coursebooks are included in the fee; however, students will need to supply their own tools, which may add additional costs.

Students can stay in their own RVs at the adjacent RV park or take advantage of on-site cabins and RV rentals. A variety of hotels are available within a few miles of the training center. Enrollment is limited to 30 students per class. Other sessions for this year will be held from May 25 to June 18, July 13 to Aug. 6 and Oct. 19 to Nov. 12.
