The Outdoor Recreation Roundtable (ORR) lauded the U.S. Senate for unanimously passing a resolution designating June 2025 as Great Outdoors Month.

ORR said the resolution’s passage reaffirmed outdoor recreation’s critical contributions to the American economy, health and quality of life.

ORR President Jessica Turner said Great Outdoors Month is a celebration of the places, people and policies that make outdoor recreation possible.

“It is about recognizing the profound value the outdoors brings to our economy, communities and health—and recommitting to protecting and expanding access to those experiences and public lands and waters,” Turner said. “As the voice of the $1.2 trillion outdoor recreation economy, ORR is proud to lead this effort each June and support the bipartisan momentum behind initiatives like the Explore Act, which will strengthen outdoor infrastructure, grow the recreation workforce, and ensure more people can get outside.”

Great Outdoors Month began as Great Outdoors Week under President Clinton and has since been proclaimed by every president since 1998. The Senate has unanimously passed a bipartisan resolution recognizing the month annually since 2017. The 2025 resolution continues this tradition.

“We are grateful to Sens. (Steve Daines, R-Mont.) and (Gary Peters, D-Mich.) for championing the Senate resolution,” Turner said, “and reinforcing that the outdoors is not a partisan issue—it is a national priority.”
