
The RVIA Summer Travel Intentions Survey found an estimated 44 million Americans plan RV trips this summer. The total is behind last year’s survey total of 45 million Americans planning summer RV travel. The 44 million equals 2023’s survey findings.
RVIA’s survey previously asked about RVing travel over Memorial Day. This year’s survey found Memorial Day and July 4 will be travel anchors, with 61 million Memorial Day travels and 54 million traveling over the July 4 holiday. However, RVing holiday travel figures were not released.
Last year, RVIA reported 18 million Americans planned Memorial Day holiday RVing travel, a 50% increase from 2023 levels.
This year’s survey was conducted by Cairn Consulting with a sample size of 1,700.
The survey found that many RV owners plan to travel during the summer holidays and take additional trips throughout the season. Summer road trips will comprise 42% of RVing travel, with most trips within a seven-hour drive from home.
More than nine in 10 current RV owners are planning summer trips (92%) with 88% of those who intend to buy an RV saying they are planning a summer trip.
A total of 83% of millennials said they intend to travel by RV, tops among generations, with 81% of Gen Z consumers planning an RV trip. Millennials were also the most likely generation to buy an RV in the next year (40%).
The survey also found consumers saying they planned more remote work and remote schooling in their RV than they did a year ago, continuing trends began during the pandemic.
