RVTechCourse.com, in partnership with the National RV Training Academy (NRVTA), released an all-new home-study course.
The course will help RV owners better maintain their units to avoid costly repairs and downtime, the company said.
The original course, which sold more than 200,000 copies since its inception in 2015, was completely redeveloped to include information about new technology commonly found in motorhomes, fifth wheels, travel trailers and truck campers. New videos were taken to provide high-quality imagery and more closeups so people can see what the instructor is describing during lessons.
The self-directed course uses a series of short 10- to 15-minute videos, handouts and workbooks to help people understand:
- RV electrical systems: 120-volt electricity from pedestals, 12-volt power from batteries, converted power from inverters or converters and solar power.
- RV propane systems: How propane is used onboard an RV as well as how to detect leaks or check for flow problems.
- RV water systems: How freshwater from outlets and onboard storage is managed, wastewater is stored and water pumps operate.
- RV appliances: Diagnose and fix major appliances common to all RVs, such as refrigerators, water heaters, furnaces and air conditioners.
- RV exteriors: How to care for sidewalls, roofs, slide outs and leveling systems. Also includes ways to test for potentially-fatal “hot skin” problems caused by improper wiring.
Field exercises guide students through hands-on training opportunities to learn how to use specific tools, like a volt-ohm meter, to troubleshoot problems and fix them. After students complete each training session, an evaluation quiz tests their proficiency and suggests areas to review to resolve wrong answers.
“We redeveloped RV Tech Course to better help RV owners diagnose and fix many common problems people experience with their RVs,” said Todd Henson, NRVTA director of education. “After completing the course, people will be able to perform essential annual maintenance tasks, which saves them time in making service appointments and saves them money by doing work on their own.”
