A weakening overall economy helped pull down wholesale RV values in August, according to Black Book.

Eric Lawrence, principal automotive analyst, specialty vehicles, said monthly auction volume grew in August.

“The average sales prices for motor homes and towables sold at wholesale auctions decreased last month, as auction volume increased to more typical levels,” he said.

The average towable selling price was $20,532, down 3.2% from July 2022. The price was down 15% from the $24,280 price in August 2021.

The average motorized selling price in August was $69,003, down 13.3% from July 2022. The price is down 1.3% from the $69,953 price in August 2021.

“Various RV organizations reported that both manufacturer shipments and retail sales are down on new units,” Lawrence said, “so it is very likely that as they become more available and dealers begin to discount once again, used RV values will follow suit.”

Towable auction volume increased 10.1% in towables from July 2022 and 23.3% in motorized. The average age of towables sold was six years. The average age of motorized sold was 11 years.
