ASA Electronics’ iN-Command Control Systems were born out of collaboration with Keystone RV. The companies worked together for two years before launching the smart-home technology at the RV Industry Association’s 2015 show.

The iN-Command Control Systems can adjust slideouts, awnings, electric jacks and hitches, lights, HVAC and roof vents, and monitor battery and water tank levels. But just because ASA Electronics released the product’s third iteration in 2018 does not mean it is all they do.

Before founding ASA in 1977, Tom Irions and Kelly Rose were Audiovox employees, working as Midwest regional distributors for mobile audio and visual products. Together, they set up ASA in Elkhart, Indiana, and started hearing industry participants talk about wanting tougher electronics.

So in 1986, ASA added an engineering department and began making their own products. Around the same time, they added safety products to existing entertainment offerings. The supplier was an early player in the rear camera market, developing its first wired one in 1987, over a decade before backup cameras were widely available to automotive manufacturers.

In 1991, ASA was the first to engineer a 13-inch, DC-powered TV for mobile use, one that did not require modifications or adapters. Five years later, Audiovox became ASA’s joint venture partner, helping to diversify the company’s customer base by coming in with heavy duty trucking, agriculture and construction markets.

Today, ASA provides entertainment and safety systems to the likes of General Motors, UPS, John Deere and Harley-Davidson in marine, power sport and utility trailer markets. Since first introducing its iN-Command Control Systems, ASA has been approached by other suppliers, like Dometic, who wants its systems to be compatible with their air conditioners. Xantrex wants it compatible with its inverters, and Garnet Instruments with its tank-monitoring capability.
