Marvin Miller and Marvin Newcomer, who was previously Miller’s sales manager at another RV manufacturer, quit their jobs to found Newmar Corporation in 1968. By 1971, they had released their first fifth wheel travel trailer, the Kountry Aire.

When Marvin Miller was looking to retire in 1984, Holiday Rambler President Mahlon Miller quit his job and bought 51 percent ownership in Newmar Corporation. Mahlon Miller led the manufacturer’s charge into the Type A motorhome segment.

In 1990, Newmar launched Dutch Star and Mountain Aire, both units which they still sell today. The new decade also led the manufacturer to introduce the first power and flush-floor slideouts in a Type A RV. Newmar continued to be the only manufacturer with such an offering for the following three years.

Mahlon Miller bought out the rest of the company in 1991. By 2006, his son Matt Miller was named President. Under new direction, Newmar exited the fifth wheel category and shifted focus to the Type A motorhome segment.

Around 2008, Newmar owned 4.5 percent share of Class A motorhome market. At the end of 2019, the company had an 11.61 percent share. For the same years, diesel sales increased from 6.37 to 23 percent. Winnebago acquired Newmar in 2019. Its headquarters and manufacturing facilities remain in Nappanee, Indiana, and Matthew Miller continues to serve as company president. Newmar is best known for its Type A and C motorhomes and has an online catalog with over 140,000 parts.
