Technical Institute, Indiana Correctional Center Produce Results

The RV Technical Institute (RVTI) is seeking to recruit and train at least 1,000 new RV technicians into the field from outside the RV industry during 2022. To facilitate this goal, the RV Technical Institute has partnered with the Indiana Westville Correctional Center. Through this partnership, 12 incarcerated students who took the technician training course at Westville successfully passed the certification exam and are certified technicians planning to enter the RV industry upon their release.

Shane Schwartzkopf, an RVTI instructor at the facility, said the program is gaining positive attention with the rest of the prison population.

“In the future I look to expand the program into other facilities in the area, if possible,” Schwartzkopf said, “and to generate a plethora of skilled technicians willing and able to begin their careers within the RV industry.”

Curt Hemmeler, RVTI executive director, said the RV industry is growing like never before.

“That means there is a lot of opportunity for a career as an RV technician, here in Indiana and across the country,” Hemmeler said. “We are thrilled to be partnering with the Indiana Department of Correction to provide this training to the students at the Westville Correctional Facility and look forward to seeing them join the industry upon their release.”
