Sharon Barner, vice president, chief administrative officer and corporate secretary for Cummins Inc., has been named to Savoy’s Most Influential Black Leaders in Corporate America list.

Barner leads several of Cummins’ global functions. She also serves as interim chief human resources officer. She works with leaders to address operational challenges and opportunities, such as core business growth, energy transition, support efficiencies and the remote work environment, Savoy said.

“It is our honor to present Savoy’ Magazine’s 2022 Most Influential Black Executives in Corporate America,” Savoy said. “The listing showcases an elite representation of African-American men and women who have been recognized for their executive and business leadership in national and global-leading corporations.”

Cummins was listed fourth on Forbes “The Best Employers for Diversity 2022” list. More than 60,000 employees working in all industry sectors elected the company to the list.

Barner joined Cummins as general counsel. Prior to Cummins, Sharon served as deputy under secretary of commerce for intellectual property and deputy director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office and Intellectual Property Department Chair at a Chicago law firm.

According to Savoy, the selection process involved examining corporate sector influence, scholastic achievement, career growth, community outreach and recognition. Savoy received information from over 500 prospective candidates.
