Truma Corp., an RV component supplier, will celebrate Earth Day by cleaning up the roadways around the company’s North American headquarters in Elkhart, Indiana.

Truma invited other RV industry organizations to join in the second annual Truma Spring Clean-up Event. Volunteers from Century Chemical Corp. and the RV Women’s Alliance are signed up for the event.

“Caring for our environment and giving back to our community has always been part of our DNA as a company,” said Truma CEO Gerhard Hundsberger. “We are grateful that other organizations in the RV industry feel the same way we do and are willing to contribute to our efforts. We hope to see this event continue to grow.”

Hundsberger started the Earth Day cleanup last year with a dozen employees. Thirty-eight Truma and outside volunteers are signed up so far this year.

“The biggest obstacle the event faced last year was disposing of the 150 bags of trash volunteers collected,” Marketing Coordinator Jordan Day said. “This year the company rented a dumpster to make disposal easier.”

Truma has a history of acting on environmental issues, Day said. The company headquarters relies on geothermal power for heating and cooling. In 2020, Truma installed roof-top solar panels to lessen the company’s carbon footprint.

Local volunteers will meet at the Truma headquarters at 2800 Harman Drive at noon April 22 and work until 5 p.m. The company will have safety vests and work gloves available. Volunteers are asked to wear suitable shoes and clothes. A volunteer dinner will follow.

Volunteers can email [email protected] or show up April 22.

“It is not too late,” Day said. “If someone has a free afternoon, we can use all the help we can get. They can just show up to help and we will feed them.”
