Around 104,200 RV industry jobs were generated within the Canadian Economy in 2022, according to a new report. Around $12 billion was added to the Canadian economy from the RV sector.
The 2022 Economic Impact of the Canadian Recreation Vehicle Industry, published in December 2023, revealed the RV industry’s economic contributions in Canada. The report was published by RVDA of Canada to further the association’s industry advocacy and education efforts.
RVDA of Canada President Eleonore Hamm said, “When we are able to showcase the tourism dollars that we contribute, it definitely gets people to take the industry a little bit more seriously.”
RVDA of Canada has been lobbying the Canadian government about RV industry needs and funding since 2004. The association advocates for aspects such as national park funding. Many parks do not have updated campground infrastructure. The association uses the report’s data to demonstrate a need for implementations such as this.
RVDA of Canada released the first report in 2013 on 2012 data. The association releases full reports every five years, in 2018 and 2023, while report upgrades excluding provincial data are released in between. The last upgrade was released in 2019.
The 2022 report found RV manufacturers accumulated $621 million in sales. The RV retail sales and service section experienced $4.3 billion in sales, increasing 11.6% from 2021 revenues.
The report said around 2.1 million Canadian households (14%) own an RV. The 2.1 million RV owners took around 6.3 million RV trips in 2022.
To further RV industry advocacy goals, Hamm said, “It is critical to have numbers.”
