RV Fixed Operations Certification Week is in action. The week-long certification campaign is promoted by the Society of RV Professionals, the RV Technical Institute (RVTI) and the Mike Molino RV Learning Center. The week is a call to action for fixed-operations professionals to gain certification.

RVDA fixed-operations consultant Tony Yerman said certification is a career investment.

“There are people that have a career and people who are just doing time,” Yerman said. “If you want a career, you have to develop yourself…if you want the top pay in your position, you have to do anything you can to develop and better yourself.”

According to Yerman, training and certification makes technicians better. Yerman collaborates with RV Learning Center students and developers.

Since 2016, the Learning Center has partnered with Ohio State University to transform print training guides into online training programs. The programs cover service writer/advisors, parts managers and parts specialists. A warranty administrator program is coming soon.

Training costs $150 and includes 5-7 hours of learning. Participants have access year-round. Videos and quizzes throughout the course lead to a practice test at the end of the course. Students who pass with a score of 80% or higher receive a course certificate.

Once the program is complete, students can take their certification test. A technician has three opportunities to take the exam. Yerman suggested taking the test before the end of December, when the RV Learning Center course expires. If a student does not pass the test, they can go back and study material before another attempt.

Yerman said when technicians build up knowledge, they reduce repair event cycle time (RECT). When professionals know their duties and responsibilities, he said, the cycle runs faster and smoother.
