The smell of leather fills the cab as a truck driver scans the road through the crystal-clear windshield. The new truck owner begins to embark on an adventure as he hooks up his fifth wheel—only to find the hitch’s measurements do not align correctly.
The hitch dimensions match his previous truck’s puck system.
Demco has a new solution for truck owners who have switched truck manufacturers. The Recon Slider for OE puck systems is the newest edition to the Iowa-based supplier’s Recon Series lightweight hitches.
The 150-pound, manual sliding Recon Slider provides adaptability between Chevy, Ford and Ram trucks. Consumers can select base plates matching their designated truck manufacturer and adapt the hitch to the OE puck system.
The mounting plates accommodate 2020-2024 Chevrolet/GMC 2500 and 3500; 2011-2024 Ford F250 and F350 and 2013-2024 Ram 2500 and 3500 models.
Demco RV Products Sales Manager Dough Northcutt said the supplier received feedback from dealers indicating a need for a product with easier installation.
“They wanted an American-made, manual-sliding fifth wheel hitch,” Northcutt said, “that was affordable for them.”
The hitch comes apart in two pieces to ease installation. The hitch has a 21,000-pound towing capacity and a 360-degree wrap-around mechanism. There are three different height adjustments.
The product debuted at the Land ‘N’ Sea distributor show in October and the Keller RV & Marine distributor show in November. Northcutt said product orders have been strong.
The new Recon Slider will be displayed at the NTP-Stag, Arrow and Meyer distributor shows.
