As RV Fixed Operations Certification Week comes to a close, Nevada Mobile RV Service owner John Larson shared his tips for RV technician success, including investing in certification.

Larson specializes in LP appliances and assisted the RVIA training center with refrigerator training years ago. He has contributed to the industry since 1982 and formed his own business in 1990. In 2017, he took second place in the Top Tech Challenge in Louisville, Kentucky. In 2019, he placed second in the same competition in Salt Lake City.

As an employer himself, Larson said fixed-operations certifications make candidates more marketable and demonstrate a willingness to learn.

He said, “I would want to hire a person who would want to work his way up the ladder and make things better in their level of certification.”

Larson said the more an employee learns, the more value they bring to their employer.

According to Larson, to achieve a desirable knowledge base, technicians should take advantage of any training they can get their hands on. He recommended getting hands-on experience outside the classroom to better understand components.

RV Fixed Operations Certification Week is hosted by the Society of RV Professionals, RV Technical Institute (RVTI) and the RV Learning Center.
