Florida will introduce a tax holiday spotlighting outdoor gear and recreational activities from July 1-7.

The tax holiday provides a tax exemption on state park admissions, sports events and more.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the legislative package “Freedom Week” in recognition of outdoor recreation’s importance, RVIA stated. Items such as recreational water supplies, grills, fishing gear, sunscreen, tents and sleeping bags will not be taxed during the week. The holiday also covers live music, gym dues and movie theater tickets.

“My favorite [part of the package] is no tax on retail sale of specified boating and water activities supplies, camping supplies, fishing supplies, general outdoor activities and sports equipment,” DeSantis said during his announcement.

RVIA stated Freedom Week is intended to encourage people to explore the outdoors as COVID-19 restrictions ease.

“We are proud of being a free state, we are proud of being open and we want taxpayers to be able to benefit if they are participating in all these things,” DeSantis said.
