Flags flew at half staff in Indiana yesterday as Rep. Jackie Walorski was laid to rest. Walorski, two staff members and another driver were killed in a car crash Aug. 3.
Hundreds attended her Celebration of Life at Granger Community Church. Speaking at the service were Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb, U.S. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, of California; U.S. House Minority Whip Steve Scalise, of Louisiana; two congressional Midwestern peers and Walorski’s husband, Dean Swihart.
Swihart played a saxophone solo in honor of his wife of 27 years.
“Jackie died in a tragic accident, and her body lies before us. We are shocked and grieved, and most of us are still trying to get a grip that Jackie has actually left us. It is still a shock,” said Pastor John Wilson of Radiant Church Michiana at the service. “Yet, she is alive, and lives with God in his kingdom now and forever. In this we rejoice and celebrate with her.”
After the service attendees processed to Southlawn Cemetery in South Bend for Walorski’s graveside services and burial. Her flagged draped casket was delivered to her final resting place by The Joint Armed Forces Body Bearer Team on a horse-drawn carriage.
