Robert Weed Corp. spent 59 years distributing and supplying wood and composite products to the RV industry, among others.
Reaching a 60th anniversary appears unlikely.
Robert Weed Corp. management sent a letter to employees last week to say the company was ceasing operations. Bristol, Indiana, Town Manager Mike Yoder confirmed the letter.
The letter said the decision to close came after efforts to secure necessary operating resources failed.
“I want to extend my sincere gratitude for your hard work, dedication and resilience through extraordinarily challenging circumstances,” the letter to employees said. “The commitment each of (you) has shown to this organization, to our customers and to one another has been remarkable, and it has not gone unnoticed.”
The supplier operates a 763,000-square-foot facility in Bristol. In June, the company sold a 60,000-square-foot facility in Twin Falls, Idaho, to UFP Factory Built, a division of UFP Industries.
Robert Weed Corp. has been helmed by Will Weed since 2017. Will Weed is the third generation of the Weed family to lead the company. He became president in 2017 and CEO in 2019.
In the past year, the company has reduced its workforce and consolidated operations on its Bristol campus. Yoder said the company fielded inquiries about leasing its now-empty buildings.
Yoder said the company and the Weed family have been strong supporters of local community activities in northern Indiana.
