Data reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics found RV and other motor vehicle dealers added 700 jobs in March from February.

The RV and other motor vehicle dealer sector employed 171,600 workers in March, according to BLS. The figure is up 4.5% from March 2021 despite the industry publicly discussing difficulties in hiring workers.

In the Elkhart-Goshen, Indiana, metropolitan area, where much of the RV industry’s manufacturing and OEM supply chain is based, the last unemployment read from January found a nationwide-low rate. BLS reported the metropolitan area had a 1.6% unemployment rate. The closest area nationwide was Columbus, Indiana, at 1.9%.

Overall, BLS reported the nation’s jobless rate fell to 3.6% in March from 3.8% in February. BLS reported the economy added 431,000 jobs in March.

“The Department of Labor remains focused on empowering all workers with access to good jobs and the skills and supports they need to fill them,” Labor Secretary Marty Walsh said. “Through the Good Jobs Initiative and more, we are investing in apprenticeships and career pathways that not only expand opportunity and equity for marginalized workers, but also strengthen key supply chain industries thereby lowering costs for families and small businesses. It is clear that a strong focus on public health and workers’ needs has gotten results, and this is no time to let up.”
