The Census Bureau’s reported advance estimates for U.S. retail sales in April rose 0.9% from the previous month and up 8.2% from April 2021.

Automotive and RV dealers reported mixed results.

The Census Bureau’s retail code tracking automotive and other motor vehicle dealers – which includes RV dealers, although not all RV retail stores – found $122.03 million in April advance estimate sales. The total would be a 2.4% decline from the $125.05 in April 2021 sales reported for the category. The total would be a 2.2% increase from March 2022 sales.

Overall, April advance estimates reported $677.7 billion in sales and revised previous month sales higher. March 2022 retail sales rose 1.4% from the previous month – twice the rate originally reported.

For the first four months of the year, retail sales overall are up 11.3% from the first four months of 2021. For the automotive and other motor vehicle dealer category, sales are up 5.3% in the first fourth months from the same period in 2021.
