Black Book’s August RV Market Commentary found an unusual spike in auction traffic for towable RVs in June.

Towable auction volume rose 7.1% in June from June 2022 levels. Eric Lawrence, principal analyst – specialty markets, said there appeared to be one reason.

“There was an unusually large number of ‘new’ 2022 models sent to auction last month,” Lawrence said. “This was most likely done to clear out aged inventory to take some pricing pressure off the remaining 2023 models and make room on dealers’ lots for the incoming 2024s.”

RV manufacturers reported some 2024 deliveries made to dealers in the end of July and first week of August.

The average towable RV sold at auction in June was a 2019 model. The average sales price was $25,056, up 17.3% from the previous month and up 23.7% from June 2022.

Motorized auction volume fell 4.3% from the previous month.

Lawrence said, “Motorhomes continued their familiar one month up, one month down pattern.”

The average motorized sales price was $68,405, down 6.8% from the previous month and down 7% from June 2022.
